FOR THE MONTH OF MAY1
2009
HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE GRADUATES4
A
Letter to my son
Dear Son,
On the occasion of
the construction of your first house, I feel inspired to put some words on paper
to you. I share your
excitement. What you are building
is more than just a dwelling – so much more. It will be a sanctuary, a haven, a place
of rest, recuperation, and safety.
In it you will experience love, joy sadness, contentment, and revival. At that point,, your house will become a
home. And going home each day will
be very satisfying. It will bring
you a sense of anticipation to drive there and walk in the door. You will feel protected, relieved,
and healthy. You will be home.
It is no mistake
that faith incorporates the image of “going home” so extensively.
Come,
home, come home.
Ye
who are weary, come home;
Earnestly,
tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling,
O sinner, come home!
The message is
obvious. The power cannot be
overstated. Home is where all souls
desire to be. It is our
psychological need and our spiritual desire. Dorothy and Toto thought so. So did Ms Carrie Watts in the movie, The
Trip to Bountiful. Her greatest
wish was to return to the place of her childhood before she died. Even when she found the farmhouse to be
abandoned and in serious deterioration, Ms. Watts was satisfied. One last connection was made. Her heart was healed.
KC, as you and
Kelsey make a home from a collection of lumber and concrete, I wish you all the
goodness your mother and I have found in the homes we have made. I wish you the gift of peace and abiding
grace. And when you get settled,
sit in a chair, quiet your spirit and play Dvorak’s 9th
Symphony entitled, Going Home.
You will be blessed.
Grace & Peace
& Love,
Dad

Our
last meeting for 2008-09 year will be May 26th. We will be wrapping our year up with a
potluck. We will be set to begin
again in September with this year’s theme being “Life On Planet
Mom”. Thank you to all those
who have helped MOPS this year. A
special THANKS to Bonnie Jones, Gayle Bade, Debbie Hicks, Lisa Smallwood, Julie
Altman and Sue Poole for helping in the nursery during our meetings. Without you we couldn’t have done
it!
Thursday, May 21st

Please RSVP to Pastor Carol.
All are Welcome!
This year’s Vacation Bible School will be held here at Hope Church from June 15-19th from 6:00-8:00p.m. for ages 3-12. This year’s theme is Son Harvest Country Fair. The children will learn that Jesus is their loving Savior who will help them grow the fruit of the Spirit in their lives.
Thank you in advance to those who are volunteering their time and energy to make this happen. Anyone else that would like to volunteer please contact Amy Pannier or Carol Helle for further details. We will need lots of extra helpers to assist with various things! Our next planning meeting will be May 3rd after church service. Watch for further announcements regarding registration. We will also be putting out notices about what donations will be needed for crafts and snacks.
Our last day of Children’s Sunday School will be May 17th. We plan to have a year-end cookout with the children next door at the park. We’re hoping the weather will hold out so the kids can play on the nearby playground and even go fishing. If anyone would like to help us out in any way, please contact Amy Pannier for further details.

Do you have an hour each week to give to
God? We don’t mean the hour
for a worship service on Sunday but an hour on any other day.
This hour would be spent visiting our shut-ins
at home, in nursing homes or assisted living--all are members of Hope who can
no longer come to the church. We
are well known here at Hope as a friendly, caring congregation. We welcome all who come through our
doors and that is wonderful. Now we
need to reach out to our members who cannot be here with us on Sunday.
We are forming a visitation team to fill this
need and we need your help. If you
could visit just one person on a regular basis, please let us know. We will be happy to schedule you at your
convenience. Men and women are
needed!
May God Bless,
Pastor Carol

Hope Church Day crafters are
donating $2000 towards the purchase of the new windows. From the sale of Shop N Save
Cards, $343.75 was made since May
2008. This is an easy way to make
extra funds for the church. The
cards are in the amount of $25.00 and you can purchase as many as you
want. Don and I purchase eight
cards and take them to the front desk at Shop N Save and trade them in for one
$200 card. This makes it easier to
carry in the wallet. It would be
great if everyone who shopped at Shop N Save would purchase some of these
cards. We make 5% on all cards
sold. I carry these cards with me
every Sunday and usually on Tuesday when I go for crafting.
We also have Farmers
Market Cards in the amounts
of $10.00 and $25.00. These are
good for anything you purchase at Farmers Market. We make 10% on every card sold. We are also giving the profits from the
cards in the amount of $175. Now is
a good time to have some cards on hand for the spring flowers you purchase at
the market.
The balance of the $2000 is from
the sale of crafts during the year.
If you are looking for gifts during the year, we always have items on
display in the quilter’s room.
We have a few flower swags, Afghans, and bath towels with hoods on for
chilren after taking a bath. If you
are looking for something special, see Judy Brindley or me. If we don’t have it maybe we can
make it. We are always looking for
new ideas of crafts to make to have ready for our bazaar in November.
If you have any questions, please
see me or give us a call and I will try and answer them for you.
