LECTIONARY
FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST
BIBLE
STUDY FOR WOMEN COMING IN SEPTEMBER
NEW
MEMBER DAY Sunday, August 16
It
is a Tuesday morning tradition, requiring nothing more than a hunger for
breakfast food and laughter. It is a
meeting of the minds, giants of intellect and spirit who rendevous at Denny’s
for the sheer joy of gathering with other men to talk and laugh and
listen. It is very predictable. Seat positions are always the same. Menu selections seldom vary. Jack gets the Senior French Toast. Darwin and Bill and Don order the Grand
Slam. Frank drinks his weight in coffee--no
sugar, no cream. “Will you be eating
today?” the waitress asks me after I arrive fashionably late. I’m the only one who she has to ask because I
like to remain a bit of a mystery. “Yes,
I’ll have the oatmeal and water to drink.
And wheat toast.” Entertainment
ensues to fill the time until the food arrives.
Stories are read from the internet.
Sports is discussed. Political
news is rehashed. Recent trips to
Branson are described. I dig in my
pocket for my vitamins which I dare not swallow on an empty stomach. I describe what each one is for. “What course are you playing today?” I ask
those who will golf after breakfast.
They will play the home course, the Orchards. The food is brought to the table. Our waitress gets most of the plates to the
correct person but has to ask who gets the over easy, no bacon, and English
muffin. She places a bowl in front of me
filled with enough oatmeal to feed one of Ron’s thoroughbreds. “No need to each lunch today,” I mutter to
myself. The table of ten men becomes
eerily quiet. Physical nourishment is
clearly more important than witty banter.
Plates are finished and the table cleared. A coupon is presented. If we combine our tickets we can get 20% off
the bill. The analytical portion of the
program begins as we pool our mathematical aptitudes to determine what each
person owes. I’m exhausted. Too much oatmeal and too much thinking. I need a nap.
We part company to resume our day.
Tuesday morning has been fun.
“Every
day the disciples continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread and ate together with glad
and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people” (Acts 2:46-47). Whether it be the temple courts or Denny’s,
God’s people gather for this reason.
Grace
& Peace,
Pastor
Jay

will be hosting our missionaries, Drew and Carla Baker (Mission Aviation

desserts and drinks for everyone in attendance.
Please come and learn what new and exciting things the Baker’s have been
doing in Central Asia. It is important to
learn how our missions giving is being used to further Christianity.

Working faithfully as our Head
Usher,
Larry Mueller is our volunteer of
the month for July.
Larry is in charge of our monthly
head ushers but he arrives every Sunday before anyone arrives. He opens the church for us--many doors to
check. He adjusts the temperature in all
areas and prepares the church for our use--lights, candles, communion table in
place, bulletins ready, coffee made. He
then greets us with a hug.
We thank you, Larry, for your time
and your service.

“The
Visitation”
By Frank Peretti
We’ll be starting back to Sunday
School on September 13th.
Please watch for announcements and sign up beginning in early August!
We’re also in need of Sunday School
teachers/helpers for the children’s Sunday School classes. If you are interested in teaching a class,
helping in a class, or signing up to be a substitute please let Amy Pannier know!
We are in need
of some new people to help on Sunday morning.
Our powerpoint operators could use a break. You would be sitting behind the pulpit at the
computer and following along the already assembled powerpoint presentation of
our worship service. If you can help
with this ministry, please call the office or speak to the pastors.
We
are needing a few extra helpers in the nursery for our upcoming 2009-2010 MOPS
year. We meet the fourth Tuesday of each
month from 6-8PM. Our first meeting will
be held September 22, 2009. If you are interested in helping us out, please
contact Amy Pannier at either 566-9431 or
977-3479.
“You Matter More Than You Think”
A 6 week video Bible study on what a
woman needs to know about the difference she makes with teaching from Dr.
Leslie Parrott as seen on Oprah and Focus on the Family. Class begins on Thursday, September 17 at
7:00p.m. at Hope Church. Discussion will
be led by Kaye Pruit.
Kickoff Supper & Prayer August
1st from 5-7PM
We will resume sending a meal to Belleville Christian Center on August 14th. Our team has enjoyed a well-deserved break but it is time to get back to work.
If there is anyone who would like to participate in this rewarding ministry, please let me know. We can always use extra hands to cook at home or organize here on the Friday mornings once a month. We also could use a retired person to transport the meal on that day. Do you hear God whispering your name?
Bless you all,
Pastor Carol
Hope Church will receive
new members on Sunday, August 16. It is
always exciting to increase numbers and celebrate commitments to faith and
church. Anyone is welcome to join our
fellowship and encouraged to contact Pastor Jay with any questions.
§
Beginning in the fall the Hope
Church youth will begin to meet regularly.
This will include grades 6 and beyond.
Details of date, time, and location are being determined and will be
advertised.
§ A trip to New Harmony, Indiana is being
planned for the fall. New Harmony is a
historic town with a rich past of intellect and faith. Details are still being worked out and
information will be communicated when it becomes available.
Dear
Manna Committee Members:
We’d
like to “thank you” for the lovely dinner you prepared for Dwight and me. It was very much appreciated because I didn’t
have to cook for one night. You were so
thoughtful and we are so thankful for belonging to a wonderful caring
church. Thanks, again.
Love,
Hugs and Prayers,
Claire

Family
is everything! Your outpouring of love
at Dee’s visitation was overwhelming and so very much appreciated. Thank you, also, for the glorious
