REFLECTIONS…

The boxes are on the shelves--right where I left them. They are grouped together so that my organizational needs are met.  They have a unique smell.  It’s not a smell I would characterize as pleasant but one that does not disgust me either.  One whiff sends me to another time and place, much like the ghost of Christmas past.  I remember and smile.  I inhale and enter melancholy.  I don’t like visits to melancholy but I don’t avoid them.  It is a love-hate relationship that I cherish and fear.  To decorate or not to decorate, that is the question.  It was not an issue when the children were small.  Then, the major center of focus and concern was which kid would be given the honor of hanging the first ornament, distributing ornaments evenly on all branches (very important), and announcing the official beginning of our season by blowing into a horn that was never meant to be blown.  It was a cheap facsimile attached to a wreath my mother had given us years before.  But if a person pursed their lips just right and blew with all their might, they could produce a horn sound.  These were our traditions.  And they were fun, and wonderful, and important.

But that was an earlier time.  Children have grown and moved.  The house is different.  My mood is different.  No more carefully planning gifts (number and cost) or finding good hiding spots for them or pleading for more sleep, at least until the sun rises.  Now, the only “child” that gets me up on that morning has four legs and a wet nose.  And I’m not talking about a reindeer.  Things have changed.  What has not changed, however, is a prophecy that echoes through time and space.  What is not different is the fulfillment of that prophecy, a story of such simplicity that its power stirs us.  What remains forever etched in the souls of the faithful is the indescribable reverence contained in a few well-chosen words:

Fear not:  for, behold, I bring you good tidings of

great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you

is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which

                                    is Christ the Lord.

When all else changes, that remains the same.  Alleluia!

Merry Christmas,

Pastor Jay

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR 2009

What a great success for Hope Church.  A wonderful two days of Christmas spirit, fun and fellowship.

Thanks to all who helped in any way from setting up tables, working at different booths, helping in the kitchen and dining room and just being any part of this great bazaar.

It takes a great deal of time and many hours of hard work to make it a success, but the outcome was worth it.

In Christian Love,

Judy Brindley

Crafters Co-Chair
